Have you got an old bike in terrible condition right now that is not running as smoothly as you would like?
Well if you do not know a whole lot about motorcycle maintenance, and you don't know how to recondition a motorcycle, but would like to get this done quickly and for cheap, here are some tricks to get that motor running smooth.
I am going to assume you do not have the tools nor the "know how" to overhaul your entire engine. If your motorcycle is at the point that it needs an engine overhaul it might be time for a new one. These are just quick tips on how to recondition a motorcycle quickly.
First of all reconditioning can mean two things. Either recondition the engine or the look. I am assuming you want the bike to run better so the good news is you don't need a lot of experience to do simple things to keep your bike running smooth.
There are lots of things you can do if you take your time, and stay organized so you know where parts go when it's time to put it together. Try not to rush through the steps. The more time you take on it the better it will work. I recommend doing more of the larger jobs during the off months. It can be quite fun working on a motorcycle in your heated garage in the winter time drinking a cold beer.
So here is a quick fix:
# 1. Buy the Repair Manual
The most important thing, and this is something that will always come in handy, is to purchase a shop or repair manual for the bike you own. This book is your bible when you want to recondition a motorcycle. You can find them online by typing your vehicle name and repair manual. Don't make the mistake of buying the owners manual. I have seen people do this when purchasing online.
# 2. Clean All Parts Thoroughly and Remove Old Gas and Oil.
Removing old gas, and changing the engine oil is very easy and should be done whenever your bike has been stored for a long period of time. Old gas will turn into a varnish type fluid. Make sure you replace the fuel filter and oil filter too. You can do everything yourself without special tools, except synchronizing the carbs which you can do after buying the right tools.
# 3. Replace the Easy Things
You should replace all the spark plugs and check your plug wires for age and breakdown, replace your battery, and if it has been over 3 years you should replace the tires. Although your tires may not look cracked or rotted on the outside, the inside of them will be weak. If you have a friend with all the tools buy him a case of beer and he might change your tires for you. Also replace the air cleaner and clean the air box.
# 4. Wheel Bearings
If the bike has been stored a long time you might want to check the bearings and bushings. All you have to do is try to wiggle the tires and swing arm. If they are loose you need to get them replaced or you will be fixing more than just bearings and bushings. Check the steering bearings as well and if when you turn you here a cracking noise you need to fix them. This is an important and easy step when you recondition a motorcycle.
# 5. Remove Rust From Brakes Check Lines
Emery paper is a type of paper that can be used for sanding down hard and rough surfaces. Use this for the rust. You will also want to bleed the brakes and check for leaks. Make repairs as needed.
Final tips
Always remember your bike needs three things to run, fuel, air and fire. If you enhance one you should enhance all three at the same time for maximum performance. Also remember when you recondition a motorcycle you should clean everything as you go, polish off rust and re- finish with 0000 steel wool or emery paper for tough rust. 0000 steel wool works great on chrome.

Live in the states, but if you purchased it a year ago for 1000.00, it is worth less than that now...because it has more miles...
You might find someone to pay more if they really liked it..only way to find out is put it up for sale at what you think it is worth, and if no one buys in reasonable time lower the price, until someone does....
