Opportunity to acquire well maintained 1979 Mercedes 300 diesel Station Wagon?
Anyone with experience with MB station wagon, diesel? What kind of mpg can I expect? It is a second car and the owner has given me an
incredible price. Are MB diesels of this vintage reliable or repair prone? Parts are costly and diesel fuel in Calif. more costly at this moment than gas. I only drive about 7 thou. miles a year.

It is a W123, Mercedes buff [cream color], must have come from the mid-west or New England for it has rust down around the wheel wells. Interior is great for the vintage and outside the rust, body is good. It is slow, but what a sweet drive excluding that.

Your contributions were singularly worthy and pointed directions that I was not aware of. Thanks all. The car is a bit tired perhaps but the price was less than the almost new four Michelins.
You should check the rear shocks "self-leveling" system and make sure it isn't leaking. (common problem) expensive to repair either way- replacing the shocks with standard bilstein or going OEM. I own 4 of these 123 chassis diesels and they are the most reliable cars on the road.... that is, if they are kept up! Check out www.mercedessource.com I've used them many times for diesel parts and come highly recommended. Their repair books are great and suggest that you buy the "diesel welcome wagon kit". Tell Kaia that Kevin from Colorado sent you. I get about 29 mpg's out of my cars and run them hard and at a rich mixture. You may get better mpg's at sea level. What do you consider a incredible price? If it needs the suspension work, it could cost you up to $2000. Also, these old Benz's sometimes need new rear axles (independent suspension). That will run another $1000 at least. Given those two big items, the price you are getting might not be so great if they are in need of replacement. Once these items are repaired though the car should give you many years of service. Also, run some Diesel Purge from LubraMoly to clean out the injectors. Diesels love to be run and low mileage ones are prone to injector fowling. Best of luck and let me know if you need any additional assistance.

What are the best after market rims/wheels and tires to put on a 2001 Audi a4?
Wheel/rims size? Tire size? Brands that arent overly expensive...
The car runs so well right now, I just got it... but I really want some black rims/wheels on there, I think it would look awesome. I was thinking of 18' rims, but I dont want to hinder the car's performance, so I wanted the advice of someone who knows more about this than I do

What recourse do I have if I think a car dealer has ripped me off for repair work?
I had my car serviced by a dealer (the car was not bought there and is not covered by any warranties) to repair a brake line. The manager said they would replace all brake lines (front and rear) for $450. When I picked up my car, only one line was replaced (the line going from the master cylinder to the hose, where the line then separates for the rear left and rear right). I was not happy, since the Midas shop in town said they would have done replaced all brake lines for $360. I didn't mind the fact that I had paid for dealer-brand service, but what bothered me was the dealer did not do all the work they said they would do. What actions can I take to get a refund, get the job fully done, or something else?
1)Talk to shop manager 1st, see what they do.
2) Write nasty letter to president of the dealership.
3) Get work inspected by 3rd party shop, & get a written report on the work done by the dealership.
4) Keep all documentation from above plus the original work order & invoice & take them to small claims court.
5) In my town the local TV station news department has a consumer help reporter. Go there, businesses that rip people off hate publicity, & usually settle ASAP.
Do the above in numerical order, & stop at whatever stage brings you satisfaction. Research, & make sure you are in the right, always be polite, & don't get angry or threaten when dealing with these people, no matter how frustrated you get, just back off & move to the next step. Good luck!

no ignition to plugs after r/r timing chain. New cap rotor points condensor plugs and wires. What gives?
60's era 289, ignition to the points but not to the plugs.
Sounds like you have oil on the points.
Use a piece of heavy paper to wipe the point contacts.
Also make sure the gap was set when the points were on the high spot of the cam.

How do I repair a pair of CLEAR plastic oakley frames?
I have these old Oakleys from the 1980s and the frame around the right lense is completey cracked. i have been able to wear the glass by using duct tape on the frame. however, i am wonder how I would go about repair these frames since they are clear plastic and a glues color might make them look wierd. Thanks
I just repaired a pair with krazy glue pricision. It worked great and since the glue is clear, you dont notice it.
