Gas Fuel

Run Your Car on Water? Hho, Brown's Gas, DIY Hydrogen Generators - are They for Real?
I've seen it over the last few days; gas is starting to top 4 dollars a gallon. Predictions are being made that the price of a barrel of oil will top $240 by this time next year. The days of cheap fuel are in the past. China and India are industrializing more and more, and when they are no longer a source of super cheap labor, that will shift to Africa, and when they industrialize it will cease being even remotely feasible to burn petroleum based fuels in our cars.
So what is all this fuss about Hydrogen and whatnot? Can't we just switch to Ethanol and burn fuel made from corn? We can, and the oil companies really wouldn't mind that much as we still need big refineries and all of their advanced distribution systems to get that Ethanol fuel to our cars. Also, most of our cars would need upgrades (new gas tanks, no aluminum parts in contact with the ethanol) to properly handle it. There is a huge lobby movement to make this the fuel of the future.
Ethanol is not a viable solution.
The reason is simple, it takes more energy to make it than we get from it and farmers are growing corn for ethanol when they used to grow it for food. I don't know about you, but I'd rather eat than drive. Don't think this is corn for your food; corn is a large part of most animal feed. More expensive corn means more expensive meat - even your cat food will go up in price.
That's why everyone from experimenters in their garages to BMW and Ford are starting to turn to Hydrogen as a fuel source.
Believe it or not, but most cars on the road today can burn hydrogen with little or no modification.
Isn't that dangerous, you ask? Isn't hydrogen rather flammable and not at all safe? You're right, of course. Few gasses have the explosive power that hydrogen has. Building an infrastructure to store and transport hydrogen around the country in the volumes needed to fuel our cars would be beyond prohibitive. But people thought about that and realized that there is a save and readily available source of hydrogen: water.
Clean, safe, easily obtainable water.
Water consists of two Hydrogen and one Oxygen atom. Both of which are very flammable. Split these apart and you've got a great fuel. This is done by running electrical current through water to break the bond between the atoms. Certain electrolytes and special metals can assist in making this easier and more energy efficient. The gas that is released is called HHO or Brown's Gas (there are subtle differences depending on the process used). People often call the devices that produce the gas 'electrolyzers' or 'hydrogen generators'.
Building a system to power your car entirely off of the gas from these hydrogen generators can be a bit of a challenge as the average car consumes a tremendous amount of vaporized air-fuel mixture, and it is beyond the means of the average person to build a car that runs entirely off of the HHO/Brown's gas fuel.
However, it is very easy to supplement your existing gas with the HHO/Brown's gas fuel and gain a vast increase in miles per gallon. Some users of these DIY hydrogen generators have reported gains of over 100% increase in MPG, though the averages are closer to 40%. Keep in mind that a 40% increase on a car that gets 30MPG is 42MPG. For the average American that is $47.84 per driver per month, or about $90/month per household. That's if you drive at, or below the average. If you are over the average miles driven per year (which is only 15000) then your savings start to increase.

What is the most environmentally senstive fuel/gas station to patron?
I live on the east coast and am looking for the most ecological, forward thinking fuel company to start filling up at.
Great question. Anything but Exxon or Mobil is a good start.
BP is a good choice, as it has invested billions towards developing technologies such as carbon sequestration.
BP is also not funding misinformation like ExxonMobil is. Here's what John Browne, Chief Executive of BP, said in his speech at Stanford University on April 27 last year:
"It would take a purposely defiant person" to dismiss the climate change threat and the growing consensus worldwide "that precautionary action is necessary and need not destroy economic life," he said.
"The cold fact is that the risks are now greater than they were 10 years ago," Browne said. "Climate change is rapidly moving from being a long-term problem to a real medium-term challenge which will affect the lives not just of the next generation but of everyone in this room."

farmall tractor producing no spark?
I have a farmall tractor that was converted to 12v years ago but when my dad and I tried to start it, it would not start. Now we concluded that there was compression and fuel but no spark. Now we took apart the distributor to find out that the cam was not hitting to make that short, so there was a problem, then we did a small tune up replacing the spark plugs, the internals to the distributor, and the distributor cap. When we put it all back together we checked to see if there was a spark and still no spark, so we hooked up an ohm meter to the coil wire and another to ground. When you turn the key it is 12.7 volts but as soon as the engine turns it is only 9 volts. This sounds like the issue but I don't want to change out the coil and spend that money to find out that that is normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
This sounds like you have a coil issue and have to replace it. Being that you converted it to a 12 volt system is the deal breaker. The coil on most cars usually last a very long time but in your case the coil is suspect and must be updated to meet your battery. You also stated that your battery reading was 12.7 It should be 12V stone cold sitting. I'd also suspect the voltage regulator after you replace the coil. If your reading was after the engine was running then, that's okay. it's when you get past 13.8-14V with the engine running there's a problem ie: alternator /regulator I'm not sure what year your vehicle is but if its old the coil has oil in it to cool it. Check for any signs of leaking or openings that shouldn't exist. Newer cars don't use oil to cool them.
After you replace your coil you might want to check the wires too for cracks and spark.Check the lead wire comming out of the coil to a ground spot on the engine and see if you get spark.
If there is no spark after changing the coil your wires are at fault too. An ohm meter is useless and you can't go by it being that you updated. Your coil needs to put out an even greater spark now.
All of this is common when changing over an electrical system. Change the coil. Then check the wires out real carefully.

Is there something that could cause my fuel pump to not work after being replaced brand new twice?
1991 Mazda MX6 replaced fuel pump, strainer, fuel filter twice now within 2 1/2 months. Driven 1 time after each replacement around the block only when i try to start it again it just cranks but wont turn over . I don't hear the fuel pump engaging again when I turn the key.Car has spark, have checked fuel pressure, I've checked everything that has been suggested to me. I was totaly clueless when I started and now just lost. No mechanical experience at all, just trial and error. If anyone might have a good idea of what i'm talking about the help would be so geatly appreciated. I've been trying to get this car on the road for 4 months
i hate to say this but you need to take to a certified mechinac.or else you will never get it on the road. stop wasting time guessing and get it fixed.

Clean fuel injector can improve fuel economy
The fuel tanks can accumulate in the intake valves auto engine, injectors, ports, fuel injectors and combustion chambers. dirty fuel injectors, one of the most common, can cause obstruction, leading to a variety of engine problems such as loss of power, hesitation, rough idle, misfire, ping, hit hard and departure.
However, one of the biggest problems that can affect your wallet without you knowing it very easily, including a decrease of fuel consumption, performance, emissions reductions, even dirty. However, it is an easy way to clean the fuel injectors which can lead to help maintain the health of your car, so you can avoid engine problems and increase fuel efficiency - save money long term.
Fuel / air intake Service Regulations
D epos control fuel additive system of your vehicle safely, quickly and thoroughly to remove engine deposits, of course, built in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, fuel injectors, ports and intake valves. His local tire dealer and automotive service center can provide a very effective "on engine" cleaning of the fuel system quickly and effectively washing accumulated deposits. The products have a long life and efficiency of engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, air conditioning, and car air conditioning systems are very useful to properly maintain these operating systems of today's vehicles.
Some tire shops and car centers are equipped with the right products and tools to the pressure of compressed air to wash and clean the air ducts and fuel. These services make the greatest difference in the cars that are driven short distances, or have been abandoned and had no maintenance regular. This process essentially own admission system (gas stove, valves, sensors, air mass at the top of the piston) and rinse fuel injectors. Depending on the state your car may or may not notice the difference after the service is performed.
The results of a ASE certified mechanic to service the fuel / air intake with good products that are innovative, well-made, environmental protection, and compliance with the task, you can help:
- Clean fuel injectors
- Clean throttle body
- Cleaning the full and the air inlet
- Clean intake valves and ports
- Correct balance of fuel and air in the system
tire stores and auto service center can perform this cleaning you can restore the flow in the injectors fuel and cleans the fuel system. Cleaning the fuel injection system will improve fuel economy and reduce exhaust emissions. Restored to "like new" driveability to an engine's performance and keeps it running better, longer and thus more effective, such as:
- Reducing emissions
- Restores horses
- Increased economic Fuel
- Starts and idles smooth and quiet work
If you experience loss of energy, first idle hesitation, misfire, ping, hitting, hard starting, or loss of mileage and your car has never had a mixture fuel / air induction service, take your vehicle to a certified mechanic. It's always a good idea to take to a professional, ASE certified technician at a local tire store. You can use the law into three parts cleaner to get this process done.

lawn mower turn fuel valve off after use?
do i need to turn off the fuel valve after i use it ever week or two? it sorta makes sense to do so, but i never did for my last honda lawn mower and it lasted 10 years and 2 months.
No you need not turn off the fuel each time you mow. If you don't use it for 3 to 4 months then it would be wise to shut off the fuel while the mower is running and let it run out of gas. The most important items to insure the mower runs properly are changing the oil every year, and install a new air cleaner every 2 months.

Fuel economy-A Beginner's Guide
What fuel economy?
According to Wikipedia, the fuel economy of vehicles is the amount of fuel required to move a vehicle from a distance. It is generally measured by the number of fuel used per unit distance, ie the number of liters of fuel per 100 kilometers Travel. The decline in value more fuel economy because it takes less fuel to drive the same distance.
Why Is it important for fuel economy?
With oil prices at record levels, with two simple steps to improve fuel economy can save money, always good. Moreover, adds fuel pollution and climate change, and adds to our dependence oil, as we know, is a source of non-renewable energy.
What can I do to improve the economy fuel?
Hybrid cars are considered very low fuel consumption. A hybrid car powered by gasoline and electricity, do not burn gasoline at all times. The Toyota Prius, for example, is considered the top model of the car Green Guide Government Australian with a fuel consumption of 4.4 liters per 100 km.
Can I improve fuel economy without spend money?
Yes! The good news is that there are many ways to improve fuel economy without having to buy a new car or gadget.
On the road
- Watch your speed - Higher speeds use more fuel. Most cars run at full capacity at about 95kmph (60 mph). Web site www.fueleconomy.gov shows how driving speed affects gas mileage.
- A smooth ride - Do not stop and starting your vehicle, because it requires more fuel for a vehicle moving than it takes to move it. Aggressive driving as speeding fast and braking also wastes fuel when you do, you send more fuel to the engine.
- Use Regulator Speed can help save fuel while traveling at a constant speed
In a garage
- Take care of your car - regular maintenance will prevent problems in the economy fuel as dragging brakes or transmission problems. A well lubricated motor reduces friction and less fuel to operate. Also, keep your car clean and waxed improves aerodynamics and fuel economy!
- Correct tire pressure is essential for energy efficiency. Properly inflated tires are less contact with the road, there is less friction, the engine did not work so hard to move the car.
- Check Air Filters - Dirty air filters restrict the flow air engine which reduces performance and economy.
- Boot! Added Weight reduces fuel consumption.
Some other tips
- Plan your trip to make a big trip instead of lots of small - a warming of the engine is more efficient than cool.
- Buy Fuel Tuesday, when more!
- Keep an eye on fuel prices at low prices in your area. See http://motormouth.com.au/pricesearch.aspx?Region=Sydney Sydney.
Favorites Council
While researching this piece, I found a point people would probably be willing to try - a working day may-four weeks! When driving to work one day less than a week, you save on fuel costs and protect the environment. Now that is an idea that will be the launch of the head ...
