Tractor Manufacturers and Suppliers Await Another Peepli LIVE!
There is a huge divide between India shining and India suffering and very few cinematic attempts have been made to expose this harsh reality. Peepli Live - a comic satire on the state of farmers successfully highlighted the same and helped in creating some buzz around the pathetic conditions of our farmers. Over urbanization is slowly but surely killing our once famed agriculture industry and its repercussions are felt by each one of the stakeholders involved including the tractor manufacturers and suppliers. Statistics show that the demand for tractors and tractor spare parts was robust up till the mid 90s and thereafter it begun to decline gradually.
Even during this slump some of the well known brands like Balwan Tractors, Force Motors Ltd, Crossword Agro Industries, Eicher, Escorts , HMT Tractors, Mahindra Gujarat Tractor Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra have somehow managed to keep their profit margins alive amidst hope of sector's revival.
Tractor parts suppliers seem to have full faith in the Tractor Manufacturers Association (TMA) – the main representative body of the tractor manufacturers which realizes the urgency of the matter and is doing its best to drive government's attention to the current crisis.
The big question remains : What is ailing the indian tractors industry ?
Analysts say that, things have not been like this and the tractor industry has seen its share of bright and shiny phase in the past, though with over urbanization the scale has tilted in the other direction.
Industry insiders further reveal that the sale of tractors heavily depends on the robust growth of agriculture which has not been the case for last few years. The farming conditions and methods have not changed since ages. Adding to their misery, crop failure has become a routine due to ineffective fertilizers or infertile seeds. New technically advance tractors can not be built as it puts the burden of the increased overheads and many feel will not work in the already gloomy scenario.
A recent report highlighted the fact that the tractor penetration level in India is very low as compared to the world standards. Also the penetration levels are not uniform throughout the country. While the northern region is now almost saturated in terms of new tractor sales, the southern region is still under penetrated.
So what can revive the indian tractor industry ?
Many Tractor parts suppliers say that Indian youth at least those who have been in farming traditionally should take an active interest in farming and its new technology. They further add that more incentive is needed from the government for those who take farming as a full time occupation. Last but not the least efforts at the socio-economic level are required to create awareness about the sad state of Indian agriculture to force government's action before it gets too late. May be as someone said - a few more Peepli Lives.

portable compost design?
My work asked me to design composting carts to efficiantly move compost on wheels and by forklift standard pallet size to fit on 5 ton trucks it needs to be simple and easy to dump the cart by forklift or tractor and fill by hand dumping dead plants and soil out of pots any suggestions?
My first suggestion would be to charge them 150.00 an hour for designing and engineering them which is a fair rate. My second suggestion would be to google.

Farmall H tractor: what plow? Needs wheels?
I just bought a nice 1947 farmall h not converted to 3 point hitch. I think everything is pretty much original except the paint. I don't know how plows work really and what plow I should use. There is a 2 furrow plow for a farmall a supposedly for sale near me, but will it be a good fit? Also, it doesn't appear to have wheels. I thought thses old plows had wheels. Help! I would also like to buy a disc and a chisel plow. Also, what do you think of farmall h...it seems from the internet to be quite a workhorse.
The Farmall H was one of the most popular tractors ever made. Lots of them still in use. They were not eguiped with a 3-Point hitch. They are best used for drawbar work such as pulling a wagon, manure spreader, hay rake, plow, etc. The tractor cannot lift implements---only pull. Therefore, the plow you need has to have it's own wheels and the mechanism to lift tye plows out of the ground. This tractor has enough power to pull a 2-Bottom plow. The disc you want should also have it's own wheels and mechanism to lift the disc for transport. A lot of implements built today require the tractor to do the lifting such as a box blade, chisel plow, roto tiller, front end loader. This requires hydraulics built into the tractor.Your tractor wasn't built with hydraulics. So, in your search for implements, just keep this in mind. You do have power take-off built in, so you can run a mower, hay baler, self unloading wagon and many other things. If this is your first tractor, you will find out that you can no longer live without one. Have fun with it!

Antique Shopping Should be Fun
Someone once advised me that if you're going to go shopping for antiques, ‘stick to shops that are true to the business.' That meant, of course, turn your nose up at flea markets and those quaint little places off the beaten path that feature a few more items, other than the 100-year-old Tiffany lamp with the requisite patina on the base--places with things like old baseball caps, bottle caps, bobble heads and maybe some scented candles on the side.
Well shucks neighbor, definitely don't pay attention to any of that talk, or else you'll miss out on all the fun. High end antiquing is for the serious professional, but don't consider it fun, and for me, fun is what it's all about. I tossed out my stuffy collar long ago and now I just take my cowboy hat and boots, with me in them, to whatever nifty little place, wherever it is, that has some good old stuff to sell.
Of course if you are a serious collector, you'd better bone up on whatever it is that you're collecting, or else take the Kovels with you, anytime you go out on that antiquing excursion.
I'll admit that I do have a penchant for items of the 50's, especially fine fountain pens and those colorful transistor and tube radios of that era. Bulova transistor radios are my favorite. That's right—the watch company—they made radios in the 50's.
My condo is running out of room to display my radio collection. Last count there were about 50 or so in various nooks and crannies (sometimes I have trouble finding my cat who likes to share the nooks and crannies with them). And yes, most of them work.
But whenever I come across one of these gems, I've got a pretty good idea of what it's worth. I've done my research and so should you if you want to become serious about collecting items from a particular niche of our past.
There are plenty of excellent books around. The local library is a great place to start. There are plenty of good reference books for the novice who wants a broad view of collectibles. Specific books on any particular segment of the market such as dolls, collectible glass, matchbox cars, and just about anything else are also available, but getting a broad view of collecting is best at first—and fun. You'll be surprised at what sorts of things people collect.
But niche collecting is not the point of this article. I'm not always looking for radios nor do I wish to. Just taking a leisurely weekend drive through the American countryside on the hunt for one of these quaint shops is part of the fun, especially if you have no agenda as to what you're looking for.
My motto is, "If you like it, buy it." I've bought random items such as old key chains, John Deere memorabilia, cuff links, an old 45 RPM record player, vintage pencils, Carnival glass, and Coke memorabilia, just to mention a few, just because I liked them. And none of the items were budget busters—all were relatively inexpensive.
Now it doesn't matter what part of this fine great country you live in, those antique "emporiums" are out there, replete with those wonderful people who own them. Mall antique shops are fine but I'm interested in something with a bit more character, thank you. I've met some fine and interesting characters out there in those one-owner shops.
I'm on the East coast and I travel throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania on my quest for that next shop I haven't been to yet. Sometimes if you ask some of the locals at a gas station, convenience store or restaurant, you'll get valuable leads as to where a great little shop is located in the area.
One thing you should always keep in mind—don't let the looks of it from the outside deter you from stopping and going in. And if it looks like a barn, or an old railroad station, it probably is, so definitely don't miss the opportunity to take a few shots with the digital before you go inside for some easy browsing.
The people who own these shops are usually knowledgeable and friendly, and you'll find that the folks who visit them are just as friendly. Heck, that's what it's all about—that human experience, as they say.
Now just because we're feeling all friendly and have gotten that warm and fuzzy feeling inside after we've browsed around—that doesn't mean we can't get down to business. That price tag on that old lamp or that collection of PEZ candy dispensers is just your invitation for some friendly bargaining--I said friendly, not nasty.
Pleasantly asking if the price on the tag is firm is a good way to start. You'll usually discover that the answer is ‘no,' and if your willing to pay with cash, that's even better when you begin your bargaining process.
Don't make the mistake though of degrading the item as a way to get the price down—not a good idea. That's a sure way to cool things down fast. Offer 20% less than what is on the tag. You probably won't get it but more often than not, you can get at least 10% off your newly found gem.
I've even offered one price for a group of items that I'm interested in. After you've done it a few times, you'll find that bargaining can be fun. That's the whole idea.
Okay, now where's my cowboy hat—hope the cat didn't get it. Time for another weekend excursion.

Mom has collection of collectable toy tractors, some antique. She wants to sell but not ebay. Suggestions?
Stepfather left mom a collection of collectable toy tractors when he passed away. Most are John Deere ERTLE tractors, but some are older including an early 1900's McCormick Derring Cast Iron Tractor in Excellent Condition. Mom wants to sell the collection but doesn't do e-bay and doesn't have a lot of time to sell these. Does anyone have a good suggestion for how she could best take care of this with the least work and the best results?

The Ford Motor Company: a Lifetime of Classic Cars
What started out as a simple ingenious way of putting things together became a great well of classic cars. The Ford Motor Company started out as a small group of three people working together to form a few simple cars. Each person would work on a different component, thus making the process much quicker. And when this style of work grew onto large scales, it defined how car creation would be.
Ford is undeniably a legendary creator of classic cars. Here we will take a look at some of the great defining vintage cars that this company has made.
The Model T
Made in 1908, this car made all those horse-powered carriages become a simple tourist novelty. The Model T heralded the real start of popular automobile usage. Its success came with the fact that it was affordable. Ford's assembly-line way of production paid off. It was so popular that it was in fact considered to be the world's best selling car design before the Volkswagen Beetle dominated the race--which was almost 60 years after!
The Model A
Ford had it strange with the alphabet. After Model T, the next fashionable car that Ford has introduced was the Model A in 1927. It was a simple and elegant car, but with additions that would define what a car would be for years. Take for example the four-wheel mechanical brakes, as well as the hydraulic shock absorbers. It had a starting price of around $300-$400. And now, a not-so-restored Model A roadster sells for $20,000 at the least. How's that for a classic car value.
The Model B
The Model B could not have made it to this list of classic cars because it looked so much like the Model A. But it carried a very important artifact--the V8 engine. Yes, Ford Motor Companies created this monster of an engine, and they put it in one of their signature cars. The V8 engine also defined how a car's performance should be: powerful, speedy, but affordable.
The Fairlane
Jump to 15 years after the Model B and the V8, and we have the first set of big cars. The Fairlane would start the trend of hood-and-trunk cars, with a classy look to boot. The Fairlane was in fact, the car for the '50s and '60s that it has permeated into the milkshake culture of that era.
The Thunderbird
The T-bird is also one of the defining cars that Ford has made. It is literally a sports car available for normal people, and which could be driven safely on the road. The Thunderbird is really a beauty, demand on the classic car market for first to third generation ones reached great proportions.
The Mustang
The Mustang is another trendsetter. Large muscle cars abound in the 60s, but Ford is not a company that conforms. The Mustang was the first of the 'pony' cars, with the long hood and short deck make. This car was so sweet and sexy that it was given a starring role as Mr. Bond's car in Goldfinger.
Aside from these cars, Ford provided us with quality trucks, buses, and even tractors. Though they may not be collectible, Ford Motor Company's versatility showed through these utility vehicles. Still, what defines Ford is its ability to set a trend in automobile making, be it an affordable car, a high-performance engine, or new designs. And this trendsetting ability is what makes Ford's vehicles valuable classic cars.
