Monet's Giverny and lofts

When you move into the current field of France in Normandy and Ile de France, it is easy to think that things are progressing not like they have always done, following the seasons of nature. In fact, it offers idyllic scenery, it is difficult to believe that something could be missing from Norman the traditional landscape. However, closer inspection there is something missing. The haystack.

Before the invention of the landscape combine was dotted with their late summer until spring of next year. This was to keep wheat in good shape before he could be beaten. The harvester traveled from town to town and could be a while before coming to a city. Meanwhile, wheat is stored in a pile of hay to keep it fresh and well preserved. It could have happened at the same time as wheat often not treated until late spring of the year following the harvest. So haystacks have been a quasi-permanent feature.

However, while the pile of hay and an aesthetic function field over 100 years, not really appreciated as a thing of beauty. Indeed, it is considered common and not any particular value, other than as a warehouse for wheat. This perception has changed significantly when the birds outside the small village of Giverny were used by the French painter Claude Monet for a number of paintings from the summer of 1890 and spring 1891. Monet original idea was actually to paint canvases with only a few stacks of hay, but that changed when the project began. Monet true study was how different light at times different weather and seasons affect your subject and create an incredible light and color effects. Once begun painting haystacks immediately before the amount of light in different ways can affect how they are perceived by him. Accordingly, increased significantly the number of canvases painted for the series of a few to more than twenty tables. Monet worked on these projects in parallel. He does not paint a painting that is when the colors and the conditions were met for the particular perception. Once that changed, he would change a painting to reflect different this new reality. In this way, he worked on several canvases on a given day. The last series was produced in his studio to ensure sufficient contrast and harmony throughout the series.

series of straw was a financial success for Monet. When you display 15 of paintings of the series in 1891, the exhibition has been received by the critics. This also translates into business success as the 15 paintings were sold in the first days of exposure. It was this new success which helped buy his house at Giverny Monet and start working on their watershed Lily there.

Today, the birds have disappeared from the landscape, Monet's garden is still there. But perhaps what should really be considered to restore a haystack Giverny few clear and disable this feature French country classic. When Monet painted calls for the preservation French rural traditions followed. Perhaps the land of Monet now also benefit from the traditional attributes which helped fund Waterlilies nearby.
